Already too many American children that could have been great scientists and technology professionals will not do so ...
We can stop this, together
Young Thinkers of America is an organization looking for high school student instructors to teach a free 10 lesson science program to American 3rd-6th graders in the same school district. Everything needed to teach these lessons is provided or described on this web site (see task bar and pull-down menu above). Through this effort we hope to contribute towards ending the needless loss of thousands of would-be American scientists and technology professionals, to an educational system in need of significant change.
Many American children that could have contributed scientific knowledge and technological advancements in the future, will not do so. In March 2012 the Independent Task Force on U.S. Education Reform and National Security released a report putting numbers to this sad fact. The report stressed the continued failing of the American educational system to provide enough quality candidates for American jobs requiring sufficient skills in science and math, including jobs important for national security (see report attached below). And we all know this failing is not due to a lack of logical insightful American children.
YTA believes that there are 4 main reasons for these failings:
1) Current educational focus on test scores rather than logical and critical reasoning
2) Lack of interest in pursuing science and technology careers
3) Lack of individual student knowledge that they are needed by their country and the world
4) Lack of knowledge of the path to success in science and technology careers
This is where you come in! Check out the program on this web site, ask Dr. Tonra for as much help as you like, contact your old grammar school teacher and set up 10 times to come into her class this school year for 45 minutes. Then have one of the best experiences of your academic life teaching her students the YTA program and being an innovator and leader in the community (Will look great on a college application too!). Find those budding great American thinkers that would otherwise not pursue science and technology careers, and let them know that we need them.
Along the way, all of your students will love earning science fiction character based YTA Trading Cards and becoming an official Thinker, regardless of which career path they choose in the future. They will remember and appreciate you for years to come...believe me, I know from experience!
